John said to me one day
Can you dance the Flora?
Yes I can, with a nice young man
Round the streets of Trawra
John the bone was marching on
When he met with Sally Dover
He kissed her once, and he kissed her twice
And he kissed her three times over
John said to me one day
Can you dance the Flora?
Yes I can, with a nice young man
Round the streets of Trawra

And he kissed her three times over
I danced in the morning when the world was begun
I danced in the moon and the stars and the sun
I came down from heaven and I danced on the earth
At Bethlehem I had my birth
Dance, then, wherever you may be
I am the Lord of the Dance said he
And I'll lead you all, wherever you may be
And I'll lead you all in the dance, said He
I danced for the Scribe and the Pharisee
They would not dance and they would not follow me
I danced for the fishermen, for James and John
They came with me and the dance went on
Dance, then...
I danced on the Sabbath and I cured the lame
The holy people said it was a shame
They whipped and they stripped and they hung me high
And left me there on a cross to die
Dance, then...
I danced on a Friday when the sky turned black
It's hard to dance with the devil on your back
They buried my body and they thought I'd gone
But I am the dance and I still go on
Dance, then...
They cut me down but I leapt up high
For I am the dance that will never, never die
I'll live in you if you'll live in me
I am the Lord of the Dance, said he
Dance, then, wherever you may be
I am the Lord of the Dance said he
And I'll lead you all, wherever you may be
And I'll lead you all in the dance, said He

The sun is burning in the sky
Strands of cloud go slowly drifting by
In the park the dreamy bees
Are droning in flowers among the trees
And the sun is in the sky
Now the sun is in the West
Little kids lie down to take their rest
And the couples in the park
Are holding hands and waiting for the dark
And the sun is in the West
Now the sun is sinking low,
Children playing know it's time to go
High above, a spot appears
A little blossom blooms and then draws near
And the sun is sinking low
Now the sun has come to earth
Shrouded in a mushroom cloud of death
Death comes in a blinding flash
Of hellish heat and leaves a smear of ash
And the sun has come to earth
Now the sun has disappeared
All is darkness, anger, pain and fear
Twisted sightless wrecks of men
Go groping on their knees and cry in pain
For the Sun has disappeared
When I was a young man my daddy told me
A lesson he learned, it was a long time ago
If you want to have someone to hold onto
You're gonna have to learn to let go
You got to sing like you don't need the money
Love like you'll never get hurt
You got to dance like nobody's watchin'
It's gotta come from the heart if you want it to work
Now here is the one thing that I keep forgetting
When everything is falling apart
In life as in love, what I need to remember
There's such a thing as trying too hard
You got to sing sometimes like you dont need the money
Love sometimes like you'll never get hurt
You gotta dance, dance, dance like nobody's watching
It's got to come from the heart if you want it to work

See the boys out walking, the boys they look so fine
Dressed up in green velvet, their silver buckles shine
Soon they'll be bleary-eyed under a keg of wine
Down where the drunkards roll
Down where the drunkards roll
See that lover standing staring at the ground
He's looking for the real thing, lies were all he found
But you can get the real thing, it will only cost a pound
Down where the drunkards roll
Down where the drunkards roll
There goes a troubled woman, she dreams a troubled dream
She lives out on the highway, she keeps her money clean
Soon she'll be returning to the place where she's the queen
Down where the drunkards roll
Down where the drunkards roll
You can be a gambler who never drew a hand
You can be a sailor, never left dry land
You can be Lord Jesus, all the world will understand
Down where the drunkards roll
Down where the drunkards roll

If you want to see the general, I know where he is
I know where he is, I know where he is
If you want to see the general, I know where he is
He's pinning another medal on his chest
I saw him, I saw him
Pinning another medal on his chest (I saw him)
Pinning another medal on his chest
If you want to see the Colonel, I know where he is
I know where he is, I know where he is
If you want to see the Colonel, I know where he is
He's sitting in comfort stuffing his bloody face
I saw him, I saw him
Sitting in comfort stuffing his bloody face (I saw him)
Sitting in comfort stuffing his bloody face
If you want to see the Major...
He's home again on seven days' leave
If you want to see the Sergeant...
He's drinking all the company's rum
If you want to see the Corporal...
He's drunk upon the dug-out floor
If you want to see the Private, I know where he is
I know where he is, I know where he is
If you want to see the Private, I know where he is
He's hanging on the old barbed wire
I saw him, I saw him
Hanging on the old barbed wire (I saw him)
A process man am I and I'm telling you no lie
I've worked and breathed among the fumes that trail across the sky
There's thunder all around me and poison in the air
There's a lousy smell that smacks of hell and dust all in my hair
And it's go, boy, go, they'll time your every breath
And every day you're in this place you're two days nearer death
But you go
I've worked among the spinners, breathed in the oily smoke
I've shovelled up the gypsum and it nigh on makes you choke
I've been knee-deep in cyanide, got sick with caustic burn
Bee working rough, I've seen enough to make your stomach turn
And it's go, boy, go, they'll time your every breath
And every day you're in this place you're two days nearer death
But you go
There's overtime, there's bonuses - opportunities galore
The young ones like the money and they all come back for more
But soon you're knocking on, looking older than you should
For every bob made on the job you pay in flesh and blood
And it's go, boy, go, they'll time your every breath
And every day you're in this place you're two days nearer death
But you go
Come all you young fellows and a warning hear me say
Don't work for Hooker Chemical on the shores of the Elliot Bay
Don't take the pay and promises, don't bet your youth so strong
Don't end up like me at 33, no one to sing your song
And it's go, boy, go, they'll time your every breath
And every day you're in this place you're two days nearer death
But you go

(The Curtains of Old Joe’s House)
My daddy made his living in a little southern town
And after school was over I would help him with his rounds
He'd sit there in his pick-up truck while I wore out my shoes
But he always walked beside me when I went up to Old Joe's
Like all the other kids in town I'd never seen his face
Though I used to leave his groceries at the back door of his place
And I knew somebody lived there 'cause next morning they'd be gone
But the curtains of Old Joe's house were always tightly drawn
They say that in his younger days he loved another man,
When that small town started talking his friend died by his own hands
There was whispering among the women, hard talk amongst the men
But the curtains of Old Joe's house were never pulled again
I could tell you where this happened 'cause I think you ought to know
That right there where you're living there are people like Old Joe
For each of us has secrets that we keep on the backroom shelves
Keep them hidden from our neighbours and often from ourselves
But everybody's got the right to be the way they are
If you're not hurting someone else then you've not gone too far
So before you start to criticise the lives that others lead
Take a good look in the mirror and be sure of what you see
They say that in his younger days he loved another man,
And what went on between them, no-one there could understand
There was whispering among the women, hard talk amongst the men
But the curtains of Old Joe's house were never pulled again

Now you all join hands and you circle the ring
Then you stop where you are, give your honey a swing
Swing the little girl behind you
Swing your own if she can come and look and find you
Turn by the left with the corner girl
Do-si-do your own
Then you all promenade with that sweet corner maid
Singing Oh Johnny, Oh Johnny, Oh
Oh Johnny, Oh Johnny, Oh
Land of the Silver Birch, home of the beaver
Where still the mighty moose wanders at will
Blue Lake and Rocky Shore, I will return once more
Boom diddy-i-di, Boom diddy-i-di, Boom diddy-i-di, boom
My heart is sick for you here in the lowlands
I will return to you, hills of the North
Blue Lake and Rocky Shore, I will return once more
Boom diddy-i-di, Boom diddy-i-di, Boom diddy-i-di, boom
Swift as a silver fish, canoe of birch bark
Thy mighty waterways carry me forth
Blue lake and rocky shore, I will return once more
Boom diddy-i-di, Boom diddy-i-di, Boom diddy-i-di, boom
There where the blue lake lies I'll set my wigwam
Close to the water's edge, silent and still
Blue Lake and Rocky Shore I will return once more
Boom diddy-i-di, Boom diddy-i-di, Boom diddy-i-di, boom
